Seeking Copy-Write Permisson

In order for us to be able to make our own video for 'We Are Rockstars' we had to email the record company, 'Almost Gold Records' to seek legal permission for this.

We created this email and sent it using my school account for this.

Here is the email we sent:

To Almost Gold Records

We are a group of A Level students working on an A Level project for a qualification in Media Studies. We are writing to request permission to use the following track as part of this project:

We Are Rockstars by Does It Offend You, Yeah?

With your permission the track would be used as the accompaniment to a short form video that is made purely for assessment purposes and will have no commercial usage. The video will be viewed only by members of the school community and the assessor of the examination board.

The artist and the copyright holder will of course be fully recognised in the pre-production and evaluation material that accompanies the project. We can also include a full copyright notice if required both in the planning material and on the video itself.

Yours sincerely

Futher Research

In order to get a proper understanding of what it take to make a good and interesting video that appeals to the audience, i have been looking over the internet, weather it is google or videos on youtube, to find ideas and inspiration for my video.

I started to look around the internet on youtube, google, and other websites to find songs with the same genres to see what sort of things they had in their videos that we could harness to recreate in our pop video. 'We are rockstars' being electronic/rock means that there is alot of videos out their to look at.

I started with google typing electronic/rock music into the search bar and see what it came up with

from here i looked at websites like :

After looking through these websites and forums i collected a few artists and songs such as:
Daft Punk
Kraftwerk
Tangerine Dream
Throbbing Gristle
Chris and Cozy
Gary Newman
OMD (early)
Devo.
Ghostly Observatory - silver city
Slimmy - beatsound loverboy
The Faint - the geeks were right
The Whip

So i took these songs and loaded a few into youtube to see the videos to help me get ideas.
Here is a couple that i liked and used to help me for ideas:

I like the way in these videos the use light (colours) and the dancers along with the technological side.

Members:

James Rushent – lead vocals, bass guitar, guitar, synthesizer
Rob Bloomfield – drums, bass guitar, guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals
Dan Coop – synthesizer
Matty Derham - guitar, backing vocals

Does it offend you, yeah? is a british electronic rock band from reading, Berkshire, england.
they fit into a number of genres next to the genres i have given examples of other bands in these genres:

Dance-punk - the rapture, yeah yeah yeah's

Electro house - paris avenue, bodyrox

Indie rock - modest mouse, MGMT

Synthpop - owl city, phoenix

New Rave - shitdisco, new young pony club

Does it offend you, yeah? is compared to muse by nme as they have a heavier more 'live' sound.
they are also compared to bands such as justice and daft punk.

Here is the video:

Their Lastest Album Cover which gives an alternative look and different style

My initial Idea 3

Band - Hellogoodbye

Track - Here (in your arms)

Star Image

Hellogoodbye have no star image which makes them a perfect band to use for the pop video. They are indie so have some form of an alternative look to them.

Treatment For Music Video

-Start slow in streets or in a car

-backstage/ behind the scenes

-sillouette dancing

or
Here is the youtube video:

My Initial Idea 2

Band - One Night Only

Track - Just for tonight

Star Image

They haven't quite reached the star image stage as not enough of the current population of music fans know them or know them that well. They are also in between genres as they are not quite rock but not quite indie either.

Treatment For Music Video

-underground (grimy)

-walking down roads (possibly with girl or girlfriend)

- moving crazy lights

-behind the scenes action

Here is the video for this song:

My Initial Idea

Band - MGMT

Track - Electric Feel

Star Image

They are a very well known band. They have an alternative style to their songs and look. While trying to be alternative they are conforming because they themselves made what they wear go from extraordinary to ordinary amongst the population of today.

Treatment For Music Video

-on the streets

-different

-alternative

-slow moving

-smooth
